Welcome Charlie Halligan to Virtus as Business Development Executive
We’re excited to welcome Charlie to the Virtus team! With a strong background in recruitment and a passion for building meaningful client relationships, Charlie brings a wealth of experience and energy to our Business Development function.
From placing skilled engineers across London to solo travelling through South America, Charlie’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Now back in the UK and ready for a new challenge, Charlie is combining commercial drive with a consultative approach to help grow our client base and deliver real value.
Meet Charlie Halligan
Can you tell us a bit about your background and career journey so far?
After completing a Business Management degree at the University of Southampton, I ‘fell’ into recruitment as most do, gaining early experience in talent acquisition and account management, before moving into a 360 Consultant role. I specialised in Construction recruitment, specifically Facilities Management, where I focused on placing skilled engineering professionals across London.
After several years building strong expertise in client management, business development, and candidate sourcing, I took a year-long career break to travel across South America on my own; broadening my perspective, developing resilience, and of course, living my best ‘funemployment’ life.
I’ve since returned to the UK and now work as a Business Development Executive at Virtus, where I’m combining my recruitment background with a passion for driving commercial growth and building strong client relationships.

What are some of your short- or long-term goals in this role?
Short term:
- Build a deep understanding of the business
- Develop strong relationships with new clients / partners
Long term:
- Establish myself as a trusted advisor within the industry
- Expand the client base whilst delivering exceptional value

What drew you to join our company, and what excites you most about your new role?
I was drawn to Virtus by the great impression I had of the people I met whilst interviewing. Their expertise, professionalism and collaborative culture of the business really resonated with me, and I was very excited about the possibility of working with them.
What excites me most about my role is the opportunity to build strong client relationships, deliver value, and encourage repeat business, all while being part of a team that genuinely values the work they do.
How do you go about building strong relationships with clients and partners?
Listening carefully to their needs, communicating openly, and managing expectations honestly. My experience in recruitment has taught me to take a consultative approach, which has helped me earn trust and create long-term relationships within the industry.
What motivates you most in your work?
What motivates me most is seeing the impact of my work. Whether that’s helping a client solve a staffing challenge, supporting candidates in finding the right opportunity, or driving growth in a new business relationship.
I enjoy building trust, identifying opportunities and finding solutions. Seeing how my work contributes to the long-term success of the business is what drives me every day.
Life Outside Work: Hobbies and Hidden Talents
Do you have any hobbies? How do you switch off from work?
I play squash and tennis (very averagely) when I have the time. I’m also a Tottenham season ticket holder so regularly go up to White Hart Lane & attend away days.

I can do a doll’s wink.
