Carbon Reduction Plan

Our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, published in accordance with the UK Government Procurement Policy Note 06/21.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance. Emissions have been reported in accordance with the GHG Reporting Protocol Corporate Standard and use Government-approved emission conversion factors.

Virtus Contracts is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This plan outlines our baseline emissions footprint, reduction targets, and the initiatives we have introduced, and plan to introduce to deliver on that commitment.

Our targets align with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) pathway to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Our 2025 baseline year captures all Scope 3 emissions categories associated with our site-based activities, representing the most comprehensive picture of our total emissions footprint to date.

50% Reduction by 2030

Our near-term target under the Science Based Targets initiative pathway.

247 tCO₂e

Projected emissions by 2030, down from 496.98 tCO₂e baseline

Baseline emissions are the reference point against which all future emissions reduction can be measured. Our baseline year is 2025, the first year in which all Scope 3 emissions categories associated with our site-based activities were included within calculations.

1

0.0 tCO₂e

Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, including company-owned vehicles and on-site fuel combustion.
2

2.82 tCO₂e

Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity consumed by the organisation at our office premises.
3

494.15 tCO₂e

All relevant indirect emissions in the value chain, including purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, and waste.
4

496.98 tCO₂e

Combined Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This is our 2025 baseline against which all future reductions will be measured.

Our reduction targets are aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) 1.5°C pathway. We are committed to halving our emissions by 2030 as a key interim milestone on the road to Net Zero by 2050.

Our 2030 target of 247 tCO₂e represents a 50% reduction aligned with the SBTi pathway to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Further interim targets and updated reporting will be published annually.

We have already introduced a number of carbon reduction measures and are committed to further actions as part of our 2025 baseline targets in line with the science-based targets framework.

1

Completed: Consolidation of site supply deliveries

Reducing the frequency and number of delivery journeys to site, lowering transport-related emissions.
2

Planned: Zero-flight policy for business travel

Introducing a company-wide policy eliminating business flights, targeting one of our higher Scope 3 emission sources.
3

Completed: Strip-out waste diversion to reuse

Diversion of strip-out waste to reuse through platforms such as Material Index, reducing disposal emissions.
4

Planned: Waste contractor review — recycling first

A review of waste contractors to ensure recycling is prioritised before incineration, reducing disposal emissions.
5

Completed: E-bike use for business travel

Encouraging the use of e-bikes for business travel to reduce transport emissions associated with short journeys.
6

Planned: 50% strip-out waste reuse target

Targeting re-use of 50% of strip-out waste through platforms such as Material Index.
