This project was a great example of championing the retention and re-use of materials. The project involved reusing existing materials that were already on site including; 250 m2 plasterboard, 3 no. glazed partitions, 500m2 carpet tiles, doors and various light fittings.
The CAT B fit out at 33 Glasshouse Street transformed the third floor into a modern workplace for Aurelius. Virtus delivered the project within an 11-week programme, creating a comfortable and contemporary office environment.
Sustainability also played a significant role in the project. In line with our Circular Economy Policy, we prioritised the retention and reuse of suitable materials already available on site.
Sustainable CAT B Fit Out
The CAT B fit out provided an excellent opportunity to apply circular economy principles in practice. Our team identified materials that could remain in place or find a new use within the finished scheme.
We retained or reused approximately 250 m² of plasterboard, three glazed partitions and 500 m² of carpet tiles. In addition, we reused existing doors and various light fittings.
Where relocation was necessary, our team carefully dismantled suitable materials before reinstalling them in their new locations. As a result, we reduced the requirement for new materials and helped minimise construction waste.
This approach also reduced the need for additional raw materials and associated transportation. Therefore, the reuse strategy supported both the project design and our wider sustainability objectives.
Bespoke Joinery and Office Finishes
Alongside the reused materials, we introduced new bespoke joinery throughout the office. Key features included a reception desk and shelving, creating a strong arrival experience.
In addition, we installed a kitchen island and bench seating within the breakout area. Bespoke storage within the private offices provided further functionality while maintaining a consistent design.
Building Services and Feature Lighting
The project also incorporated new feature lighting to complement the interior finishes. Furthermore, an underfloor air conditioning system provided effective climate control throughout the workplace.
Together, the new services, bespoke joinery and reused materials created a comfortable and stylish office. The finished scheme demonstrates how considered design and circular economy principles can work together within a contemporary commercial fit out.
