A completely revamped reception and coworking space for International General Insurance on a very tight programme. The results speak for themselves.
The small works fit-out for IGI involved the reconfiguration and refurbishment of its existing office and reception spaces. Working to a tight four-week programme, Virtus delivered a series of targeted improvements designed to make better use of the existing workplace while integrating seamlessly with the original fit-out.
The project demonstrates how a carefully planned small works programme can transform an existing workplace without requiring a complete office refurbishment.
Office Reconfiguration and Small Works
Virtus removed the existing glazed office and partition wall before altering the bulkhead and making good the ceilings to match the surrounding finishes. Where possible, the team reused existing materials. For example, we carefully relocated and adapted the glazed partitioning to suit the new office layout.
In addition, we reconfigured the existing power and data installation around the revised space plan. New carpet within the former office area then created a consistent finish with the surrounding open-plan workspace.
Reception Redesign and Workspace Improvements
The reception formed another important part of the small works fit-out. Virtus redesigned the area to establish clearer separation between the reception desk, greeting space and working areas.
We also installed new booths to create socially distanced workspaces. Meanwhile, new vinyl plank flooring visually separated different areas of the reception while complementing the existing finishes.
Importantly, the flooring layout followed the lines of the previous fit-out. This approach created a natural flow through the reception and greeting area while providing sufficient space for the reception desk and adjoining workspaces.
Finally, the team redecorated the interior to complement the existing décor and create a consistent appearance throughout.
Overcoming Small Works Fit-Out Challenges
The existing glazing presented one of the project’s main construction challenges because of its size and weight. Therefore, the site and professional teams carefully planned its removal and relocation.
Before moving the glazing, the team prepared the new location so installation could progress efficiently. Furthermore, careful planning of the new flooring layout enabled us to define the reception, greeting and working areas without disrupting the visual language of the existing fit-out.
Delivered Within a Four-Week Programme
Despite the challenges of working with existing materials and finishes, Virtus completed the project within the client’s four-week deadline.
The completed small works fit-out successfully reconfigured the existing workplace while retaining and adapting key elements wherever practical. As a result, IGI gained a refreshed reception, improved workspace layout and more clearly defined areas, all integrated with the existing office environment.
